about

In “Look Back Alone”, a bombastic stomping industrial-flavored refrain, we listen to the voice of the minority as it is crushed and subjugated by the very powers it presumed to hold dear. Always look back at history as lessons to be learned and never forgotten, and never forget the battles fought against tyrannical forces. While you gaze dispassionately at those whose human rights are being destroyed, always remember that your status and privilege today could swiftly turn sour at any turn of power, and that your continuing freedom should never be presumed. If you blaze a path too far from the ever-changing norms, the next time you are looking back at where you’ve been, you’ll be looking back alone.

lyrics

Well look at you – you believed that you were safe
You thought this sort of thing would never happen to you here
You should have known – this place is rotten to its core
And now all the things you loved are now all the things you fear

All the protections – that you had under rule of law
Vanished into the ether like all of our lofty dreams
There are no guarantees – we are slaves to our passions
Violence and terror rule when god goes mainstream

You gonna hide but
They’re gonna find us anyway so
Look back and look back alone
Look back and look back alone

First they took your dignity – they made you second class
One by one your rights are gone they whittled them away
They made you an animal – in invisible iron shackles
Your essence made illegal no matter what you say

You can’t fight it – the majority has ruled
The few will always suffer for another man’s offense
You’re a victim - of someone’s deeply held beliefs
Trapped in tent city behind concertina fence

You gonna hide but
They’re gonna find us anyway so
Look back and look back alone
Look back and look back alone
