I draw a blank when I think of the future
I fade it in when I think of you
I color it with the possibilities and pen it in with something new
I shade it with uncertainty I darken it with age
A picture perfect with no shape and then I turn the page
I was the artist of the century I painted in bold and black
I brush unabashed with epic strokes overshadow those who lack
What I lost in subtlety I gained in ferocity
After all my life is too short to worry about things like tact
I was at the top of my form and popularity and I enjoyed it all
My pieces dwarfed even the most elegantly designed great hall
They came in droves to see the sight the exhibit
Always open all night
I never gave even once a thought to when or how I would fall
Then I saw the people's eyes drift and glaze over and by
Walk right by my works of art with no real reason why
Couldn't keep their attention not even honourable mention
I had lost whatever magic touch I had as hard as I tried
So I sat back and took a look at the shapes and lines I drew
Worked my mind in new directions and exercised in lieu
Canvas painted with new ink and who knows what they will all think
But at least it's not the old rerun this is something that is new
